Pic of Braille Typewriter

Posted by on

We saw a play performed called “Not By Bread Alone” by an all deaf-blind cast last night at NYU. Very cool, powerful, and unusual. No pics were allowed but I snuck up on stage and got a quick pic of the main character’s typewriter. Throughout the play the character types though he can’t see or hear. The typewriter creates Braille. Really fascinating how language works an how were able to creat it under the most taxing circumstances.

My teenage daughter went to a restaurant that might interest you at the Nalaga’at Center where there is a performance by deaf-blind actors. The Center has two restaurants. One has deaf waiters. Its other restaurant is pitch black and has blind waiters. After ten days of travel, that restaurant and performance was the standout experience for her.

I had forgotten about it until your post. The performance you saw sounds amazing. I hope it is still running.
