Sometimes I forget my father isn’t a native English speaker, and then he’s like ‘wtf is this,’ and then I remember English is a terrible language.
Yes, yes and yes! I also have worked with non-native speakers and tried to explain why rough, though and through pronounce the “gh” differently. It’s amazing to me how many people speak English as their 2nd language and do it so well.

There’s a reason why learning vernacular English is easy enough, but writing English fluently is a real rarity.
I don’t think many of my ESL students could handle these.

English must be REALLY hard to learn if the authors can’t even use it correctly in the title of their article. “Twenty-one reasons WHY”?? Really?
