Wow, yes–got it. But here’s an excerpt from writer Mavis Gallant’s diary (in current NYer) that in part explains my own anguish: “Wasted day. Wrote letters to avoid the novel. It is all there, and, once I begin working, I am submerged, but the plunging in frightens me.” It’s so mental, isn’t it?

This is great. Writing is like my shrink. I express on paper either directly in a journal or through a story, and I feel much better afterward.
If that were a poster I would buy it!
